Small firms warned online fraud is rising

Small businesses have been warned that the number of recorded online fraud attempts reached a peak in July, according to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

HMRC received more than 15,000 reports of fraudulent repayment emails in the last year, in which con artists send out emails asking for financial details in order to issue a tax rebate.

Three new conference venues have joined NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau – the specialist business tourism team which attracts conferences to the ‘twin cities’.

North East Skills returns to Newcastle

North East Skills, the region’s largest careers and training event for young people is returning to Newcastle in September 2009.

Employers, educational organisations and training providers will offer thousands of young visitors the chance to find out more about career opportunities, and the world of work.

The event, which attracted 5,000 visitors last year, takes place at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on September 29 and 30.

Those taking part include the Army, Careers at Sea, Connexions, Gateshead
