As recession erodes family inheritances, Brits face uncertain future

Nearly one in three British adults is banking on an inheritance to help fund their retirement.

And if the economic turmoil continues the inheritance could be significantly lower than expected for many.

Findings by Friends Provident reveal that despite expecting to be left an average inheritance of £64,000, 44% of adults are not concerned about the recession affecting their inheritance pot and retirement savings. Ofgem switches attention to small businesses

Energy regulator Ofgem has unveiled proposals to give small businesses better protection in the energy market.

The proposals are part of reforms Ofgem will introduce following its energy supply probe. They are aimed at micro-businesses – companies that have fewer than ten employees or one of a number of other characteristics. The proposals include a ban on the automatic roll-over of fixed-term contracts which has resulted in some businesses being locked, without being aware, into unfavourable long-term contracts.

UK Trade & Investment leads export record

The UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is helping hundreds more companies than ever before to export.

The latest quarterly survey shows that a record 20,700 businesses were helped to generate £3.6 billion in additional profit.

UKTI customers were interviewed in early 2009 as part of the independent Performance and Impact Monitoring Survey (PIMS). While they reported that the global economic downturn had affected their businesses, over half (51%) were experiencing increasing demand from abroad.
